Quarterback. 2011-Present. Cam Newton. 3. player. 87.

There was a lot of skepticism surrounding the Panthers’ decision to draft Cam Newton No. 1 overall back in 2011. The problem wasn’t that he lacked the talent, but more of that he lacked the maturity to handle the limelight.

Well, as you probably know, Newton disproved his doubters. Although his time in the NFL hasn’t been without bumps, the unicorn of a quarterback has certainly made his mark on the franchise. During his time with the team, they’ve only missed the playoffs three times while winning the NFC South three years in a row from 2013 to 2015.

Newton is also the only Panther to ever win the NFL MVP award. His historic 2015 season, including a 15-1 regular-season record and trip to the Super Bowl, was among the greatest ever by any Carolina player.

Despite the off-field issues and immaturity coming into the league, Newton is one of the most captivating talents the NFL has ever seen. With elite athleticism for his size and ridiculous throwing abilities, the Panthers could not have asked for more out of that top pick. Suffice it to say, Newton has already asserted himself as one of the best players to ever call Charlotte home.
