Devin Funchess

If there was one player on offense who deserves praise, it is Devin Funchess. The veteran had a great day even in defeat.

The former Michigan man caught five passes for 74 yards and a touchdown. That averages out to about 14.8 yards per catch. The touchdown grab itself brought back shades of Randy Moss. Firstoff, Cam Newton threw a beautiful football. Secondly, he got airborne and managed to get behind the defender. It was a truly incredible play and a lone bright spot in what was otherwise a bad day.

Quite honestly, a day like this should be encouraging for Funchess. With all the weapons the Panthers have, he showed today that he is still one of the top wideouts on the roster. He was certainly one of the many weapons in play today for the Panthers. He did a nice job of spreading the field well. Not only did he make plays, he made big plays and as it turns out, his touchdown was one of the more impactful plays for the Panthers.

It will be interesting to see what he can do against a tough Eagles defense next week. Defense is their calling card, and they will certainly not make his life easy. Nevertheless, he should be viewed as a top weapon for Newton. In the meantime, he balled out today, and made the best out of an overall disappointing afternoon.
