Carolina Panthers Week 7 prediction: Another close one
Carolina Panthers Week 7 preview and prediction at Philadelphia Eagles.
The Carolina Panthers have only traveled outside of Charlotte for two road games this season, returning home each time with a loss. First it was divisional rival Atlanta, who until last week had only beaten the Panthers and then came the mishap in Washington.
Carolina gets another chance this week as they travel to Philadelphia and face the defending Super Bowl Champions. The Eagles proved they were on their way last year with a 28-23 win inside Bank of America Stadium, getting a late turnover and letting their defense keep Panthers quarterback Cam Newton from any late game heroics.
This season the Eagles have been a bit of a roller coaster, losing three narrow games but evening their record at 3-3 by dismantling the New York Giants last Thursday night. Philadelphia intercepted quarterback Eli Manning on the second play of the game, scored a touchdown three plays later and cruised to a 34-13 victory.

The Panthers league leading rushing attack entering last week never got anything going in Washington. Partly due to the score, down 17-0 at one point in the first half, Carolina seemed to abandon the run and instead relied on Newton to throw the football.
It was enough for the Panthers to pull back into the game but needing just five yards for a first down late, three straight incomplete passes ended any chance at a comeback. The Eagles run defense has statistically been better than Washington through the first six weeks of the NFL season – not a good sign for running back Christian McCaffrey and the Panthers offensive line.
Tight end Zach Ertz has been phenomenal for the Eagles this season and Carolina has struggled against tight ends. Last week the Panthers gave up eight receptions to the tight end position for 84 yards and a touchdown, the season totals are even more frightening – 27 catches, 287 yards and three scores.
Coach Ron Rivera will have the Panthers ready and refocused after last week but these two hurdles will be too much to overcome, especially on the road.
PREDICTION: Carolina Panthers – 20, Philadelphia Eagles – 27
