Carolina Panthers at Detroit Lions Week 11 game information
Carolina Panthers Week 11 preview and prediction at Detroit Lions.
After kicking off Week 10 with a disappointing loss on Thursday night in Pittsburgh, the Carolina Panthers have had a little extra time to dwell on their most recent performance. As a result, it feels like the upcoming game, also on the road, could go one of two ways.
Either Carolina is going to rebound and dominate or another flat, mistake prone, outing is in store. Coach Ron Rivera has a history where his team’s improve their play as the season transpires, leading to wins late in the year and momentum for the playoffs. Since 2011, Rivera is 41-19 in regular season play from November on and only once has posted a losing record (2016, 4-5). Don’t expect this year to be any different.
Detroit is trending in the wrong direction for first-year coach Matt Patricia, with three consecutive losses of at least two scores. The Seahawks, Vikings and Bears have all recently out played a Lions team attempting to find their footing and get back on track.

Last week quarterback Cam Newton was constantly under pressure. A piece meal offensive line had bonded over the course of the season but seemingly no one could keep the Steelers pass rushers at bay. The results were a near safety, an ill advised pass attempt resulting in a defensive interception with a touchdown and having to throw the ball away twice.
The defense was non-existent. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had his way against what had been an improving secondary as almost every player had a glaring mistake – James Bradberry fell for a pump fake, Donte Jackson got beat and safety Eric Reid ended up being ejected for an illegal hit.
In order to bounce back, these two areas must improve – not necessarily against the Lions, but for themselves. If Carolina can find a way to protect Newton and allow him time to operate then the offense will score enough points to win provided the defense carries their weight.
New coordinator Eric Washington has been criticized all week after seasonal lapses culminated in one of the worst performances in recent memory from the entire unit. Now having experienced both ends of the coaching spectrum from the Dallas Cowboys six sack performance to last week, consistently finding results closer to the former will be key for any continued success.
PREDICTION: Carolina Panthers – 31, Detroit Lions – 17
