Kyle Love upset people believed he was sleeping on the job
Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Kyle Love now famous for all the wrong reasons.
The Carolina Panthers made their 2018 national television debut last Thursday night with a prime time game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Things started great with the Panthers going on a nine-play scoring drive for an early lead but it wouldn’t last. Everything went wrong for Carolina from that point as they relinquished a lead in mere seconds and for defensive tackle Kyle Love, negative aspects from the game have continued.
With just over five minutes remaining in the game and the Panthers down 52-21, a camera caught Love with his eyes closed and head bowed on the bench. At first glance it appeared the 6-foot-1, 315 pound lineman was asleep and the short video was quickly shared around the internet with multiple people commenting – some funny, others harsh – about the incident.

For a game many of the Panthers were likely hoping to forget, Love has had to relive the moment multiple times over the past week with many news outlets, including the hometown paper, The Charlotte Observer, reporting about his sideline demeanor. In response, Love resulted to posting a statement to his Instagram account saying, “People will believe anything about you as long as it’s negative, but anything positive getting questioned” and left the comment, “Can’t even believe people!”
Teammates have defended Love and say he’s upset that people would actually believe falling asleep on the bench, regardless of the game circumstance, is possible. Love didn’t record a tackle in Pittsburgh and has just 11 on the season, but defensive coordinator Eric Washington has been supportive of his veteran tackle and the work he is doing.
If Love can generate a solid performance against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, it will help put this silly story to rest.
