Up and down performances haunted the Carolina secondary during the first half of the season but the group performed well enough to keep the team in games. However, after being victimized by Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and his receivers, this unit has struggled.

Depth behind rookie Donte Jackson is a huge issue and the Panthers have allowed numerous plays deep, down the field – especially late in ball games. This unfortunate combination has provided for critical mistakes in a couple losses and an inability to play with any consistency has plagued this group all year.

Hampered by the absence of a pass rush, the secondary knows they’re going to be tested and no unit can provide consistent coverage for extended periods of time.
