The Panthers special teams enjoyed a high point in the season with a 63-yard game winning field goal over the New York Giants. Following the solid start to the season it has been a downhill run with few opportunities for encouragement.
Over the four game losing streak, kicker Graham Gano has missed two field goals and an extra point attempt. He bounced back at Tampa Bay, connecting on each try but critical misses in a few games derailed opportunities for a win.
Punter Michael Palardy has done a nice job when punting the football but too many penalties in coverage and false starts have hurt Carolina.
The loss of wide receiver Damiere Byrd put a dent in the return game as the Panthers have turned to Kenjon Barner to cover punt return duties down the stretch. He’s already bobbled a catch with a solid, reliable option has eluded Carolina for some time.
These final four games will be critical to the future of the franchise moving forward.
