Hard Road

Fans seem to quickly forget how difficult even reaching the playoffs is during any given year. Since the team’s inception, they have reached the playoffs only eight times in 22 seasons prior to 2018. A berth, regardless of how it is obtained, should be cherished.

John Fox is the winningest coach in franchise history with an overall record of 73-71 in nine seasons. He took teams to the playoffs only three times and one included a Super Bowl loss. Rivera has coached for seven-plus years, compiled a 70-54-1 record to this point and been to the playoffs four times with a loss in the big game.

In a “what have you done for me lately” league, the big picture and full body of work shouldn’t be ignored, in addition to appreciating any opportunity to play beyond the regular season.

Three weeks remain, beginning with another nationally televised game on Monday night against the New Orleans Saints.
