Ball Control

As cliche as it sounds, the best way to keep Brees and the Saints offense from scoring is to keep them on the sidelines. In order to do so, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and his offense must sustain drives and convert on third down.

Creating time consuming drives that result in points – whether it be three or seven, benefits both the Panthers offensive and defensive units. The New Orleans defense is improved but keeping them on the field for lengthy amounts of time should help wear them down and open up opportunities for big plays. When on the field, a rested Panthers defense obviously gives them the best chance at being successful.

Controlling the clock, winning time of possession and converting on third down will all help limit the amount of time Brees and the Saints have to operate.
