Perhaps the biggest test for Carolina, dealing with emotions during the course of the game will be important. Uncertainty surrounded this team during the offseason – needing to replace an owner and coordinators – under the new leadership, no one knows what David Tepper’s plans are for Rivera after the year.
In addition, there are numerous players on both sides of the football who may be playing their final games in a Panthers uniform. Ryan Kalil, Thomas Davis, Julius Peppers, Mike Adams and Greg Olsen, who was placed on injured reserve after another set back with his foot, all have either announced retirement or have uncertain futures.
How the Panthers players who may be enjoying their final snaps with the team handle themselves and the response of those around them will be key. Essentially, there is no hope at the playoffs and depending on the game situation, it may be hard for them to generate any positive emotion as the game progresses.
The Panthers and Falcons kick off on Sunday, December 23 at 1:00pm ET.
