Carolina Panthers eye future in Week 17, prediction and how to watch
Carolina Panthers Week 17 preview and prediction at New Orleans Saints.
The Carolina Panthers (6-9) free fall from a promising start ends in the same building as last year but with far less fanfare. While a victory would at least break the current four game losing streak to New Orleans, it won’t help the Panthers salvage much from what initially appeared to be the first back-to-back winning seasons in franchise history.
After last year, expectations were the final three weeks of 2018 would feature some entertaining games with a lot on the line for Carolina, New Orleans and Atlanta. However, only the Saints managed to carry their momentum forward rendering this final game meaningless, having already clinched home field advantage.
Both teams are expected to deploy a shell of their original rosters in an effort to allow the home team rest and preparation for the playoffs, while Carolina turns their attention toward next season. An assessment of younger players and opportunity awaits.

The 2018 season ends as it began for the Panthers, with many younger players and reserves getting an opportunity to impress their coaches. Unfortunately, the return to a preseason type atmosphere in Week 17 indicates how poorly Carolina has played over the second half.
Cam Newton battled shoulder soreness for much of the year and eventually was shut down by coach Ron Rivera and the Panthers. This led to backup Taylor Heinicke getting his first start but an injury suffered last week now forces undrafted rookie free agent Kyle Allen into action.
Other starters are also expected to be sidelined for the season finale as younger players are given an opportunity to gain valuable experience. Running back Christian McCaffrey, linebackers Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis may all be watching, in addition to a few others.
In their place Cameron Artis-Payne, Kenjon Barner and Travaris Cadet may see time in the backfield with David Mayo, Ben Jacobs or rookies Jermaine Carter and Andre Smith receiving time on defense.
PREDICTION: Carolina Panthers – 13, New Orleans Saints – 24
