Carolina Panthers free agents who need to be re-signed
Bryan Cox Jr., DE – Exclusive Restricted Free Agent
As an undrafted rookie with only two years of experience, the Panthers own the rights to re-sign Cox without him being allowed to negotiate with other teams. While there are a few others on the list of free agents for Carolina, a few are likely to not be retained.

Cox is an exception. In two seasons, this Panthers rising star has been used sparingly behind veterans but given another offseason of development, could work his way into the lineup by the start of next season.
Entering only his third year at 25 years old, Cox has increased playing time over his career and could be poised for a breakout in 2019. If not with the Panthers, there is little doubt Cox wouldn’t end up on an NFL roster elsewhere – so he may as well return, especially since Carolina essentially controls the cost.
Hurney has his hands full preparing the roster and ensuring there is enough talent to avoid another collapse next season. As he and coach Ron Rivera attempt to revitalize the team with an influx of youth, these few free agents should be retained.
Each has proven they can contribute on the field, while maintaining the fiscal responsibility Hurney needs to emphasize during his second tenure as general manager.
