Carolina Panthers: 2019 Senior Bowl players to watch
The Carolina Panthers should keep a close watch on these Senior Bowl prospects.
After a promising start to the Carolina Panthers season, the team dropped seven of their final eight games and missed the playoffs entirely. The onus fell squarely on the surgically repaired shoulder of quarterback Cam Newton but there are plenty of other areas in which the team needs to improve.
General manager Marty Hurney signaled a commitment to an influx of youth onto a roster heavy with veterans by not re-signing linebacker Thomas Davis, but finding young talent capable of contributing immediately is rare. The Panthers have also historically been a franchise that prefers to slowly introduce rookies into their permanent lineup.
That could be changing as Carolina has needs on each side of the football, especially along both the offensive and defensive lines. On Saturday, many of the country’s NFL Draft hopefuls take to the field in Mobile, Alabama for the Reese’s Senior Bowl, giving fans, scouts and general managers one last opportunity to see them in live action before NFL Combine testing.
Many projected top picks avoid the game altogether, but the Panthers should have an opportunity to evaluate and meet with a handful of players in order to judge interest and help finalize a draft board for the spring.
A few players the Panthers should be watching are listed here in no particular order.
