Panthers legend Steve Smith will be involved in All-Star Weekend
Steve Smith will be a part of NBA All-Star weekend.
NBA All-Star Weekend is almost here, and Charlotte will be the host. In what is sure to be a fun weekend of all things basketball, the Carolina Panthers will be represented during the star-studded affair. Former Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith will play in the 2019 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game presented by Ruffles. The game will take place on Friday, February 15 at 7 p.m. ET.
Smith will be teammates with fellow Carolina native Jay Williams, Dr. Oz, and Chris Daughtry among other notable names. If there is one aspect of this game that Smith has working in his favor, it is the hometown crowd. All eyes will be on Charlotte for the weekend, and Smith has a chance to give the hometown fans a great showing. Also working in Smith’s favor is the fact that he is a former athlete. Many Panthers fans miss seeing Smith on the field, and his leaping ability and speed will probably not be as effective as they used to be, but he will undoubtedly be effective on the court.

It is hard to predict stat line for Steve Smith. He could have a great game or he could be overshadowed by some of the other stars on the court. Even though I hope Smith has a great game, my early pick for MVP is Dr. Oz. He is not your typical MVP pick, which is why I think he can be effective in this game.
The one thing I worry about in the case of Steve Smith is that he will be way too competitive in this game. I can definitely see him dunking and talking trash to the away team. That would be great to see and I’d expect nothing less. He has always had the competitive and fiery spirit, two of the traits that made him so successful during his playing days. I definitely see a few blocks in his future, and definitely a few staredowns will be had during the game. Hopefully they equip the players with microphones so we can hear what Smith has to say. Something tells me it will not be appropriate for all ages.
It will be fun to see Smith among others compete on Friday. I am always amazed at the non-basketball players that have tremendous skill. I could certainly see Smith falling into that category. He was certainly an athletic freak during his playing days. That should definitely translate well to the game of basketball.
