Accuracy issues could keep Carolina or other teams from pulling the trigger on Tyree Jackson but his potential upside is worth exploring. The Panthers are never going to land any first-round type quarterbacks without a disastrous season – which should never occur with Newton on the field.

While immediate depth is a concern with Newton’s recent shoulder injury history, finding a long-term replacement project needs to be the priority. Jackson has the physical traits to succeed in the NFL and with a few years development could contend for a starting role when the time is right.

Carolina currently has plenty of young options but none appear ready to have the franchise’s future on their shoulders. With the status of Newton’s unknown, finding someone to which he could potentially pass the torch to, when necessary, is increasingly critical.
