A member of the Carolina Panthers is saying goodbye.

An old friend is continuing his career in the National Football League, this time on the West Coast. Former Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis has agreed to a three-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers per multiple media reports.

Davis has spent every season of his 14-year career in the National Football League with the Panthers. He accumulated statistics in some seasons that allowed him to be in the conversation with the best linebackers in the National Football League. In total, he played in 176 games, starting 158 of them. He should be able to add to that in his new home. In addition, he is known for getting to the quarterback, recording 59 quarterback hits including an impressive amount of 12 in 2015. As you may recall, the entire Carolina Panthers defense was on fire that year.

This past season, Thomas played in 12 games. He was suspended for the first four games of the season for using PED’s. Even still, he managed to tally impressive numbers. He recorded 79 tackles and six pass deflections, not too shabby for someone who is getting up in age by football standards.

The Panthers will certainly miss Davis. He was the consummate professional who always gave it his all every time he stepped on the field. He was someone that you knew you could count on defensively, as he always seemed to be there to make the right play. He played aggressively and with purpose, and was undoubtedly the leader of the Carolina Panthers defense. Now, that role will probably be given to Luke  Kuechly as he figures to be that same dependable veteran Davis was for many years.

The Los Angeles Chargers are getting a player that can still play at a high level. He may have lost a step over the years, but he is dependable and is not afraid to make plays. Especially in the AFC West, a player like Davis could be very useful.

We wish him the best of luck and thank him for all he has done here in the Carolinas. There is no doubt that Sunday’s will feel a little different now that Davis is gone, but alas such is the nature of business in the National Football League. Now, the Carolina Panthers have to find the next man up, either in the draft or on the roster. Whoever decides to seal that void will have big shoes to fill.
