Carolina Panthers offseason workout dates unveiled
This could be a pivotal time for many Carolina Panthers players.
The official dates for the Carolina Panthers 2019 offseason program were announced on Monday, meaning that the start of the 2019 season is one step closer. It seems like just yesterday that the New England Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl. However, for teams that were not lucky enough to make a deep postseason run, the offseason must’ve felt like it took forever. Although the offseason is still technically upon us, it is safe to say that preparations for next season are in full swing.
The first day of the offseason program is April 15. OTA workouts have three sessions to them. May 21-23,, May 28-30, and June 3-6 will be the days those take place. The mandatory minicamp begins on June 11 and lasts until June 13. There will be many interesting storylines heading into these workouts. For one, the health of Cam Newton will be a major question as the workouts get underway. Normally for a veteran, these workouts do not carry a ton of weight. However, with Newton coming off his injury and resulting surgery, he may have to take these workouts more seriously than normal.

Another thing to watch out for is how players who performed well last season, such as D.J. Moore and Ian Thomas, handle their first round of offseason workouts. This is a big time for them as well. This will give them a chance to improve upon the skills they honed last season. Hopefully then, they can take the momentum from these workouts and transfer that to training camp come July. 2019 should be a big year for them as well as many others, and they need to make sure they start off the season on the right foot. That mindset begins with these workouts.
The Carolina Panthers learned the hard way that these workouts are not just a walk in the park. Last year, running back Fozzy Whittaker suffered a season-ending torn ACL injury. As much as the coaches probably want the players to compete hard and fast during these workouts, they also need to make sure that nobody gets hurt. Although you never like to see an injury of course, if a player has to get hurt, you would rather see it in a regular season game. The Carolina Panthers can’t afford to lose players to these workouts as depth was a problem for them last year. They certainly need all their players healthy if they want to be successful in a competitive division.
Nevertheless, these will be fun to follow. This gives the returners a chance to work out the kinks and get their minds and bodies ready for the upcoming season. It should be an exciting one for the Carolina Panthers, and they certainly have a lot to prove.
