Carolina Panthers target offensive tackle, Andre Dillard, as NFL Draft looms.

The Carolina Panthers have a few more key positions to fill and as the NFL Draft approaches they are tasked with narrowing potential candidates. General manager Marty Hurney has been hard at work throughout the offseason, signing free agents in an effort to construct a championship caliber roster but his plan is far from over.

Signing Matt Paradis to replace center Ryan Kalil was a quality move. In addition, the Panthers also added Bruce Irvin for veteran defensive line help, another running back with the return of Cameron Artis-Payne and bolstered the competition up front by signing tackle Daryl Williams to a one-year deal.

The latter potentially solidifies both ends of the offensive line with Taylor Moton developing into a superstar talent, but if last year was any indication, a team can never have too much firepower in the trenches. A release of tackle Matt Kalil opened up the possibility of Carolina using a high draft pick on a tackle and with the depth of talent available at defensive end, it’s possible offense may come before defense when first on the clock.

Andre Dillard is drawing significant interest and although originally projected as a second-round selection, his NFL Combine performance and Reese’s Senior Bowl week have boosted him into a potential first day pick.

Hurney traveled across the country to meet Dillard, joining 27 other NFL team representatives in attendance at Washington State’s Pro Day workout. The 6-foot-5, 315 pound tackle didn’t attempt any of the tests used at the combine but he did complete a set of positional drills.

Following, a visit to Carolina was announced plus stops with the Giants, Ravens, Redskins, Texans and Vikings. Barring a trade, only the Giants (No. 6 overall) and Redskins (No. 15 overall) will have an opportunity to grab Dillard before the Panthers are up with the sixteenth overall pick.
