Carolina Panthers add veteran receiver to roster
Carolina Panthers sign free agent wide receiver Chris Hogan to the roster.
Carolina Panthers general manager Marty Hurney continues to tool his roster in an effort to build a championship football team. As the NFL Draft approaches, the next pivotal step in the process, scanning the free agent market and finding players who can contribute is continuously ongoing.
With needs at many positions on both sides of the football, which position Carolina targets first has been a hot topic of contention. A starting caliber safety is a possibility, along with a defensive end or even an offensive tackle. Any could be legitimately justified in the first-round but other positions require a different outlook.
Hurney targeted D.J. Moore last year, adding a dynamic rookie receiver into the mix in hopes of giving quarterback Cam Newton another weapon on offense. A relatively young and inexperienced group, both Moore and Curtis Samuel have flashed signs of potential and a veteran presence in addition to Torrey Smith could help.

The Panthers did just that, adding former New England Patriots stand out Chris Hogan. Signing Hogan, Carolina is getting an eight-year veteran with a proven track record. Although he may not have staggering statistics, his consistency has been solid and he’s put together multiple scores every year since working his way onto the active roster with the Buffalo Bills in 2013.
Making 35 receptions during last season for New England, Hogan scored three touchdowns on his way to helping the Patriots reach the playoffs and Super Bowl. A familiar stage for him, reaching the big game in each of the past three years while winning two championships.
Prior to signing in New England, Hogan was an undrafted free agent signed by the San Francisco 49ers. He has spent time with five different organizations before joining the Panthers but hopefully some of his most recent experiences continue.
A fourth consecutive trip to the Super Bowl while winning a third ring, would be nice welcome to the Carolinas.
