Beason will announce the Carolina Panthers second round pick.

It was reported a couple weeks ago that Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey would announce the team’s second round draft pick. There has been a change of plans. Instead, former Panthers linebacker Jon Beason will now be the individual tasked with announcing the pick in what should be a very productive and impactful couple of days.

Beason of course was selected highly in the 2007 NFL Draft. Selected with the 25th overall pick, Beason would go on to have a tremendous career with the Panthers. Three straight Pro bowls, First Team All-Pro honors in 2008 and Second Team All-Pro honors 2009 are just some of the things he did in a tremendous career. Injuries would derail his time with the Panthers as he was traded to the New York Giants in the 2013 season. He spent two seasons in New York before retiring in 2015.

It’ll be fun to watch him announce the second round pick, which will be  No. 47 overall the. It will certainly be interesting to see what the Carolina Panthers do in that slot as they look to stock up on talent in all rounds. This draft is deep, there is no doubt about it. As a result, Carolina has many options to choose from when it comes to draft picks. In a draft that could signify some turnover, Carolina needs to make sure that they make good decisions with all of their draft choices.

There is some talk already that the Carolina Panthers could trade up in the first round. That would definitely shake up the draft and put Carolina in a better position to land an impact player. As deep as this draft is, all of the “crown jewels” so to speak are located at the top of the first round. This draft is definitely top-heavy, more so than in other years. Unfortunately for the Panthers, they’re in a tough spot as they are located not really at the beginning of the round but also not so far back that they cannot do anything.

Beason will be there to see it all unfold, at least when it comes to pick No. 47. Hopefully, Panthers fans like the pick. If all goes according to plan, Marty Huney will  build off the good momentum from his successful draft last year. There is a lot of talent to be had in this draft, and the Carolina Panthers should have a great shot at getting some of it.
