The Carolina Panthers made the most out of their last draft pick.

With their last pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers went the route of wide receiver. Former Georgia standout Terry Godwin is now a Panther. The selection of Godwin came a short time after the team selected offensive tackle Dennis Daley from South Carolina.

Some of you may be familiar with Godwin. He is a playmaking receiver who was a part of the Georgia offense in 2018. His best year for the Bulldogs came in the 2017 season. That year, he caught 38 passes for 639 yards and six touchdowns. Averaging 16.8 yards per reception, he proved to be a tremendous deep threat. Hopefully, he can provide the same sort of role for the Carolina Panthers.

It’s interesting that the Panthers picked Godwin here. First off, I think it was a good pick.  He will add additional depth to a wide receiver unit that was barren as of a couple weeks ago. However, with the recent addition of Chris Hogan to the roster, things are looking up. Now with D.J. Moore, Curtis Samuel, Terry Godwin, and Chris Hogan, things are definitely looking better. You have a multitude of receivers that have different skill sets. That’s exactly what you need. More importantly, they all can be relied on to make a crucial catch.

According to his NFL.com profile, Godwin has a multitude of strengths and weaknesses. One of the strengths that stands out to me is “Crisp, sharp routes with little wasted movement.” As I’ve said before, the Carolina Panthers offense relies a ton on timing. Having another receiver that is very sharp with the way he does things is important. That, in theory, will make life much easier for Cam Newton.

One of the things he needs to work on is putting on some muscle. That is something he can correct at the professional level, and once he does that, I think he can be a true weapon to an offense that is beginning to take tremendous shape. He just has to stick with it, and make sure he is committed to reaching that goal. Personally, I think that can be an easy fix.

For their last pick in the draft, the Carolina Panthers made a great one here. I feel like I said this a lot over the past couple of days, but general manager Marty Hurney has done a nice job of trying to address needs and providing Cam Newton with the protection he needs to be successful. Furthermore, he has upgraded the defense and gotten younger at several spots. Overall, I would consider this a successful draft for the Carolina Panthers
