Carolina aimed for balance

The Carolina Panthers definitely wanted balance this draft. Looking at their picks, it was clear that they wanted a little bit of everything at every position. It was an impressive draft considering the Panthers had many needs to fill and only so many draft picks to do it.

They selected a pass-rusher with their first pick in Brian Burns. Then, they decided that protecting Cam Newton was another priority of theirs, which I agree with. They added insurance at the tackle position by selecting Greg little. Will Grier, although a surprise pick provides depth to the Carolina Panthers quarterback room. Another edge defender was added in Christian Miller. He adds a multi-dimensional play style to the edge position.

Jordan Scarlett, the talented running back out of Florida adds depth to a position that desperately needs one. Dennis Daley, the offensive tackle from South Carolina beefs up the offensive line. Lastly, Terry Godwin adds additional depth to the receiver position. A playmaker in his own right, Godwin can certainly can provide additional explosiveness in what should be a very deep passing attack. The Carolina Panthers addressed multiple positions in a draft where an overhaul was needed. I credit them for their balance, it’s a hard thing to do, especially when you are drafting against 31 other teams. Nevertheless, Marty Hurney and company made it work.
