Julius Peppers accepts new Carolina Panthers role

Julius Peppers remains with the Carolina Panthers by accepting a front office position.

A former first-round draft pick (No. 2 overall) of the Carolina Panthers, defensive end Julius Peppers enjoyed a Hall of Fame career. For 17 years he tormented opposing quarterbacks becoming fourth all-time in sacks (159.5), including a decade with the Panthers.

The North Carolina native also impacted the communities where he played, spending time in Chicago and Green Bay during his NFL career. Most recently, establishing the Julius Peppers Hurricane Relief Fund for those impacted by Hurricane Florence along the Carolina coast.

Announcing his retirement just this offseason, Peppers stepped away from being on the field but has accepted another job with the Panthers as reported by Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk. Hired with the title Special Assistant, Business Operations – Peppers is scheduled to aid in a variety of different projects for the team.

Not only will the future Hall of Fame and Panthers Hall of Honor member assist by serving as an ambassador for the team but he will also be involved in some business decisions, according to Steve Drummond – Vice President of External Affairs.

Growing up in the eastern part of the state while playing collegiate football and basketball for the University of North Carolina, Peppers has a special connection to the residents of both states and to this team. As new owner David Tepper continues his mission of spotlighting the contributions of both Carolinas on his team and growing the fan base, Peppers is a perfect selection to lead the charge.

Fans, business personnel and politicians all recognize a familiar face that has made such an impact on and off the field during his time as a player. Moving into this new phase of his career, it is expected that Peppers will be just as successful.
