Carolina Panthers rookies’ first test comes this weekend
The Carolina Panthers rookies are in the fold.
A new wave of Carolina Panthers players is now set to join the team. Thursday, five draft picks signed their contracts. In total, nine players signed the dotted line on Thursday. These rookies will be fun to watch, as this appears to be a very deep draft class that addresses many areas. In that sense, it is a lot like the 2018 class. We have seen how well those guys have turned out.
Some names of note that signed the contracts include quarterback Will Grier, running back Jordan Scarlett, and linebacker Christian Miller. Out of all the rookies that can make an impact right now, one sticks out in my mind in particular. Scarlett would be that guy. Much ado has been made about the lack of depth at running back for the team. I think Scarlett will be able to fill that void. He has the potential to see the field quite a bit come the fall.

In any event, there is no doubt that people will be watching to see how Grier does. He is obviously not going to start over Cam Newton, but it will be interesting to see how that dynamic works. Both quarterbacks have been very transparent about their feelings towards each other. It all seems to be trending in a positive direction.
The rookie minicamp this weekend will be the first chance to see all of these guys on the field. Brian Burns and Greg Little have not signed their contracts yet, but as many of you recall D.J. Moore signed his contract in mid-June. There should be no reason to worry.
This weekend will probably involve lots of learning. The Carolina Panthers re-did their minicamp so as to allow for more “classroom time.” As I stated earlier in the week, I think that is a smart move. Of course, everything is different on the field and everything seems like it’s going up 1 million miles an hour. At least that’s how I imagine it to be. In any event, this is a very early chance for the rookies to be able to prove themselves. This could give many of them a head start before the rest of the team begins to practice in July.
At the very least, most of the rookies are signed. I will be curious to see when Burns and Little sign. Once that occurs, I will feel much better. Like I said, I am not too worried about it. Then, we can truly start the 2019 season in earnest. In case you can’t tell, I am very excited about that.
