Quarterback (2)

Cam Newton, Will Grier

The Panthers made a commitment to Will Grier by selecting him during the NFL Draft in April. The first quarterback taken by Carolina since Newton was picked No. 1 overall in 2011, he is expected to be a legitimate backup option and potentially the future at one of the most important positions.

Despite the solid play from both Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen, the team can’t afford to risk putting Grier on the practice squad only to be poached by another team in need. The Panthers have their own quarterback concerns and the draft displayed their preparations for the future.

One of the many backup battles on offense that should feature good competition, ultimately, the price paid for Grier wins him the role.
