Cam Newton’s shoulder

I hate to make this the top storyline heading into the offseason, but Cam Newton’s shoulder is undoubtedly the biggest thing in the Carolina Panthers news right now. Per the latest report, Newton is “feeling great.” Even still, his shoulder will be something to monitor in the long run,. The surgery  will probably improve the mobility in his shoulder and get him back to throwing like he used to. However, the recovery process is not always seamless.

The Carolina Panthers drafted Will Grier to at the very least, create some quarterback competition for the Carolina Panthers. Grier could prove to be a factor this season if  Newton is not completely healthy. This is certainly a situation to monitor. Heading into the offseason, Newton should continue to and make sure his shoulder is ready for action. I’ll be interested to see if his shoulder is stronger once the team comes back for the start of training camp.

Admittedly, if his shoulder is still bothering him by the time training camp begins, I will be a little worried. Newton is still relatively young, and should have a lot of football left in him. The Panthers are relying on him to help them take the next step, as they look to get back to the playoffs at the minimum. If he can’t do that, that would be concerning. The Panthers and their fans should monitor the situation closely.
