All the stars went to lunch

The Carolina Panthers biggest players were out to recruit McCoy. That’s one of the things we learned in his press conference today. That play a huge role in him coming here, and the guest list for the lunch they hosted with McCoy was impressive.

Luke Kuechly, Shaq Thompson, Christian McCaffrey, Greg Olsen, Trai Turner, and Kawann Short were there for lunch last Friday as they went to show their support for signing McCoy. He also had conversations with quarterback Cam Newton, although he kept the contents of those conversations private in his meeting with the media on Tuesday. I can only imagine what was said between the two. As if that wasn’t enough, he had breakfast with head coach Ron Rivera on Friday, presumably before his lunch.

What that tells me is that the Panthers as a team were all in on signing McCoy. This undoubtedly signals that they have camaraderie. That may have been part of the reason McCoy was sold on joining the Panthers. It was great to hear so many of the Carolina Panthers stepping up and welcoming McCoy during his initial visits to Charlotte. That tells me a lot about the character of the team, and undoubtedly made McCoy feel more welcome. Hopefully, that sense of brotherhood and togetherness will continue on the field. Moreover, it signals that the Carolina Panthers really wanted him to come to Charlotte, and it is refreshing to hear the organization coming together to try to get a tremendous player in the organization.
