Carolina Panthers entering most important season in franchise history
Single Year Contracts
Many of the new additions Carolina added this offseason signed only one-year contracts. While this was great for salary cap situations, it doesn’t provide for any type of longevity. Yes, the Panthers have sold some of these (i.e. Daryl Williams) as ‘prove it’ type deals but what if they do actually ‘prove it’.
If so, the Panthers will be hard pressed to re-sign all of the same pieces to long-term deals. Gerald McCoy, Bruce Irvin, Chris Hogan, Aldrick Robinson and Javien Elliot are all newcomers expected to contribute, in addition to Williams, Cameron Artis-Payne, Kyle Love, Efe Obada, Bryan Cox Jr. and a few other returners.
These new additions were specifically put in place to correct some of the issues that haunted Carolina down the stretch last season. If they work, many will need to stay, but their current contractual positions and salary cap situation don’t set up for this to be the case.
