Cam Newton

Cam Newton is a very tricky fantasy football pick this year. We don’t know how he is going to fully recover from his shoulder surgery quite yet. He has not been thrust into game action, and we may be able to get a clearer idea once games begin.

Newton was ranked as the 78th overall player in the 2018 ESPN fantasy football rankings. This year, he is ranked as the sixth overall quarterback in Mike Clay’s PPR rankings. He is ranked seventh overall in Eric Karabell’s PPR rankings. Matthew Berry has him ranked as the seventh overall quarterback in his rankings as well.  It appears that there is a general consensus between the three that Newton is still in the upper echelon of quarterbacks.

Until we get a full understanding of his situation regarding the shoulder, I would be hesitant to draft him highly. Rounds 5-7 are typically when a quarterback goes in a draft anyway. I certainly wouldn’t take Newton any higher than that.
