Greene has been here before as he fights to make the Carolina Panthers roster.

As training camp begins, the Carolina Panthers are looking for players who could help improve their roster. Of course, we know that the big stars will help the roster. That is usually a given. What is impressive is the unknown names who rise to the occasion, and perform well enough to end up on the big club come the fall.

The Carolina Panthers have many candidates whose story could be exactly the same. For the first time in a long time, the Carolina Panthers are very balanced on both sides of the football. It finally looks as though they have a complete team. That should only help them compete in what is bound to be a very crowded NFC South. In particular, the offensive line should be a position group to watch.

There is no denying that last season was a disaster for the offensive line. With the signing of Matt Paradis and drafting of offensive tackle Greg Little, those are just some of the improvements that could help address the position. There is also some help available via the now-defunct AAF. The Carolina Panthers picked up a bunch of former players from the league, back in April. Although some names have been released already, one that appears to be sticking around is guard Brandon Greene.

Unlike many of the players who came to the Carolina Panthers by way of the AAF, Greene has professional football experience. He signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent on August 7, 2017. However, he was waived on September 2, 2017 and was signed to the practice squad the following day. He was finally able to get his shot on December 23, 2017 as he was promoted to the active roster. He was once again waived by the Bears on September 1, 2018.

In Friday’s Grill Bill column Bill Voth of Panthers.com thinks that Greene has a shot to make the team. I would agree. Greene has been down this road before. He can use his experience to help him as he fights for a roster spot. This is something that can work to his advantage. Obviously, this is not an ideal spot for him to be in. Nevertheless, being on the roster bubble is a part of life for some of these players. Voth says that Greene is a guy you should keep an eye on.

"I’d keep an eye on guard Brandon Greene. He impressed some in the spring, and with some more seasoning, the former Bear by way of Alabama could help further improve the offensive line’s interior depth."

I’m excited to see what he can do, you can never have too much depth on the offensive line. The Carolina Panthers proved that last year. I don’t think he is going to be an All-Pro anytime soon, but I do think he should be able to help the Panthers. At the end of the day, this is another step in his journey across the National Football League. For his sake, I hope that he can find his niche with the Panthers.
