The Carolina Panthers have a special talent in quarterback Will Grier

Much has been made about Carolina Panthers quarterback Will Grier. After he was taken in the third round, many Panthers fans were wondering if he was the right choice. I was even wondering myself, having said that they rolled the dice when the team drafted him. So far however, he is using training camp to state his case.

He certainly has the talent to be successful. He put up tremendous numbers at West Virginia, and some mock drafts had him going as high as late in the first round. Carolina had met with him before the draft, and it was certainly intriguing for them to do so. After all, Carolina has their quarterback in Cam Newton. Nevertheless, this is looking like a smarter pick every day.

With Newton’s health still up in the air a bit, Grier may be called into action at various points throughout the season. Furthermore, he could be the Carolina Panthers quarterback of the future. Either way, he is in a very interesting position moving forward. He should definitely make the most of the snaps he gets, and it sounds like he is doing so at the moment. That is certainly a good sign.

Max Henson of Panthers.com put together his training camp observations from Monday. One of the most interesting ones was about the rookie quarterback. It sounds as though he is getting the hang of things, which is always tricky for any newcomer in the National Football League. I’d expect to see a lot of him this preseason, and that will allow the Carolina Panthers organization and their fans to see what he is made of. I personally think he could be a great asset to the Panthers, as he certainly has the talent to be successful.

"Will Grier seems to be getting into a bit of a groove. The rookie quarterback hooked up with tight end Ian Thomas on a beautiful corner route to the pylon. And Turner was very happy to see Grier make the smart play and fire a quick pass to rookie running back Jordan Scarlett for a touchdown. “Isn’t that nice?” Turner said with a smile."

If Grier can continue to impress in practice, I could see him getting some reps in come the regular season. There are probably going to be points during a game where Newton doesn’t play. If all goes according to plan, he will be healthy and play the majority of the snaps anyway. Even still, Grier should be able to see the field no matter the situation.

Will Greer has now officially begun his Carolina Panthers career. I could see it being a very successful one. Hopefully, he will make the most of it and become a huge part of the Carolina Panthers future.
