The former Carolina Panthers is now a member of the New York Jets.

Ryan Kalil is back, just not with the Carolina Panthers. The center has agreed to terms with the New York Jets per multiple media reports.

Per the team’s official Twitter account, they have agreed to terms with the veteran pending a physical.

This is certainly an interesting development. I thought Kalil would retire as a Panther and remain strictly a Panther for the entirety of his career. Especially when you look at the body of work he accomplished throughout his career, I figured he would feel comfortable with retiring. Five Pro Bowls, two First-Team All-Pro nominations, and a Second-Team All-Pro nomination are just some of the accolades on his resume.

When you consider that he was picked in the second round with the 59th overall pick, that makes his career even more impressive. He certainly made the most of his opportunity in Carolina with the Panthers. Now, he looks to add even more to his legacy as a member of the New York Jets.

The Jets are certainly a team that has potential. With players like quarterback Sam Darnold, running back Le’veon Bell and rookie Quinnen Williams on the defensive side of the ball, they certainly have a lot of players with tremendous potential and success in the game. Maybe Kalil wanted to be a part of that. I certainly can’t fault him for coming back to the league. Maybe he got the itch that he really wanted to play again. That is certainly a valid and entirely possible reason for him coming back.

Whatever the case may be, there is no denying that it is going to look weird seeing Kalil in a New York Jets uniform. This is a great move for the Jets, as it gives them veteran stability on the offensive line. Especially when you are dealing with a player under center like Darnold who is still growing, Kalil’s presence on the line is certainly welcome. He loves the game and he knows how to play it the right way. He would be a tremendous asset to any team and the Jets are certainly lucky to have him.

This is certainly not a report that I thought I would be writing today. Nevertheless, best of luck to Kalil on his new adventure with the Jets. He certainly should be able to succeed there, and maybe he will have a shot at seeing postseason play again. I will certainly be following his progress closely.
