Special Teams Play

Parity across the league is one thing that makes the NFL special and unpredictable. Yes, there is seemingly always a handful of teams who are competitive and around at playoff time but there’s also a few surprises each season and once teams get into tournament play anything can happen.

Due to this there is often a fine line between any two teams offensive and defensive performances, which is why turnovers are always important. For this reason special teams play also becomes even more important. Literally, one-third of the football game, these units and their impact often go unnoticed unless they either mess up or produce a scoring play but it is here where a team can find success.

Being able to flip field position on a punt in an effort to keep your opponent pinned back, adding points at anytime – not just a game winner – with a field goal is always better than getting nothing out of a drive and making smart decisions when given the chance can all have a significant impact on the game.

Executing in all five facets – punt, punt return, field goal, kickoff and kickoff return will help the Panthers find success this year.
