Carolina Panthers: Donte Jackson proving to be in midseason form already
The Carolina Panthers should expect a big year from him.
As Carolina Panthers game week against the Buffalo Bills approaches, the joint practices have been providing some great entertainment. With so much fanfare because of this and so much focus to being placed on certain position battles, it’s certainly easy to forget about some of the veterans on the roster. Cornerback Donte Jackson now fits into that category.

The second year player is undoubtedly trying to avoid the sophomore slump that plagues many National Football League players. So far, he has look strong over the course of training camp, and that didn’t change on Tuesday. According to reports of media members who were there, Jackson had a great day and was very active around the football. This is what I would expect from him moving forward. We saw last year how much he meant to the secondary, and how he often had a ball-hawking mentality.
The Carolina Panthers certainly need him to be on his game in 2019. There are some new pieces in the secondary, but there is no doubt that, even as a second-year player, Jackson is the glue that holds many things together. We saw last year what the secondary was like when he was not on the field. As many of you may recall, it was not pretty. Expectations are undoubtedly even higher for him, which may be a bit unfair. Nevertheless, it seems like he is up for the challenge. He certainly showed that he was in mid-season form according to Max Henson of Panthers.com.
"Donte Jackson had a good day, beginning when he went 3-for-3 in one-on-ones with Buffalo’s wideouts. Jackson knocked a slant away from John Brown, batted down a crossing route to David Sills and got just enough of a deep ball to Sills from quarterback Josh Allen. The colorful Jackson then jogged over to a crowd of Bills fans gathered behind the end zone and nodded his head. He later celebrated with a flex after he broke up a dig route to Zay Jones during a team period."
The swagger that he brings to the Carolina Panthers is awesome. As long as he can keep it in check, I see nothing wrong with it. He brings a flair of excitement to the secondary, and his mannerisms seem like they give him more confidence. Especially in this pass-happy league, if that’s what it takes for him to be successful, I am perfectly okay with it. Whatever he does seems to be working.
As long as Jackson keeps having great days during the course of training camp, I see no reason why he can be successful in 2019. He is a key part of the secondary. Unlike last year, the Carolina Panthers have much better depth on the roster. If Jackson needs to go out for a play, it shouldn’t be as detrimental as it was at times last year. Nevertheless, there is no denying that he is a major part of the defense.
