Everything you need to know about the Carolina Panthers final preseason game.

Only one game remains before the Carolina Panthers (1-2) begin cutting their 90-man roster down to 53 players and for those on the cusp of making the team, it could be the most important. While the Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers, along with a majority of other NFL teams, won’t play many (if any) of their starters tonight, this game affords a final opportunity for everyone else.

Carolina still has a few cloudy areas in terms of backup opportunities which could ultimately be determined by tonight’s preseason performance. Back-up quarterback, running back and cornerback are all up for grabs, in addition to reserve roles along the newly reconfigured defensive front. Rookies Will Grier (QB), Elijah Holyfield (RB), Christian Miller (LB/DE) and Jordan Scarlett (RB) are all expected to see plenty of action as they continue their respective adjustments to professional football.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (3-0), a familiar opponent in these exhibition games, will provide competition as these two teams meet for the seventeenth consecutive season. A loss for the Panthers would conclude preseason play with a single victory for only the second time (2011) in coach Ron Rivera‘s nine seasons. Carolina finished 6-10 following in regular season play.
