The offensive line needs some work

Thursday was not a good night for either offensive line, but from the perspective of the Carolina Panthers, their line could have done a lot better. They gave up six sacks for 38 yards. At times it looked like they let the pocket collapse and  didn’t allow the quarterbacks any time to throw. Even though they got the victory, Carolina has to clean that up if they want to be successful.

This was a problem for them last week as well. Against New England, it looked like several of the linebackers and even defensive ends were able to get to the quarterback. That cannot continue to happen throughout the course of the season. After making several moves in the offseason to address their line, it looks like the Carolina Panthers are back at square one. This certainly does not bode well. Especially when you have a quarterback in Cam Newton that cannot afford to take any more hits, this is not what you want to see.

Although the fourth preseason game was mostly for depth pieces, it showed that Carolina does not have as much depth on the line as we originally thought. Hopefully, they can fix this over the course of the regular season. If not, it could make for another long year.
