Question 1: Can QB Kyle Allen lead the offense?

As of writing this, Cam Newton playing in Week 3 is in serious doubt. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but the fact that he is in a walking boot suggests that he will not be available.

Insert backup Kyle Allen. Allen is actually the last quarterback to lead the Panthers to a win. Let that sink in for a second. Allen led Carolina to victory in Week 17 against the New Orleans Saints last season.

Allen actually put up very respectable numbers considering it was his first start in the NFL. He was 20-for-31, threw for 266-yards and two touchdowns. One thing to note is that it was against a lot of the Saints’ second-string players. New Orleans had the division wrapped up and had nothing to gain by winning the game.

Still, Allen was impressive and got a win. The final score of that game was 33-14.

Allen led the team with a lot of confidence and poise in the pocket. He was able to gain the trust of receivers and hit on timing and touch throws, something that Newton has not been able to do this season.

If Allen is able to lead the offense with the same kind of style that he did in Week 17 last season, then the Panthers might be on their way to their first win against a less-than-stellar Arizona team.
