52 Other Players

Every week each NFL team activates 53 individuals to compete. Losing one can obviously change a game plan or make a difference schematically, but it will not wreck an entire season. In addition, a number of other teams around the league are having to replace their quarterbacks – this benefits Carolina.

Despite being one of the few having to look elsewhere for help, the Panthers also have a reliable number of offensive weapons on which to rely. Running back Christian McCaffrey continues to prove his effectiveness week in and week out, while the young receiving corps of D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel appear to be just getting started.

As the offensive line continues working to form a cohesive unit, there’s still plenty of veteran talent – Greg Olsen, Greg Van Roten, Matt Paradis – on offense to surround Allen with help. Every team has to employ a “next man up” philosophy at some point and Carolina has the roster to cushion the blow of losing Newton.
