Defense and Special Teams

More from Cat Crave

In the game of football, offense makes up one-third of the overall performance. Each week, three different units – offense, defense and special teams – have to execute their game plan in order for a team to be successful. When all three are clicking it makes a team extremely tough to beat.

Fortunately for Carolina, both their defense and special teams are stacked. General manager Marty Hurney worked tirelessly throughout the offseason to revamp a Panthers defense moving from a 4-3 front to the 3-4 being played a majority of the time this season. The pieces are in place for success on that side of the football.

Having an elite quarterback can increase a team’s chance to win – depending on the matchup. Throughout history, there have been plenty of quarterbacks to win a Super Bowl relying on consistency, maintaining their offense, protecting the football and leaning heavily on a defense to stop their opponent.

Next. Thank You Cam Newton. dark

Regardless of what the future holds for Newton, the current state of the Panthers defense and special teams provides hope.
