The Carolina Panthers have been hit with their share of injuries this week.

In taking a look at Thursday’s injury report for the Carolina Panthers, one thing is still abundantly clear: the Carolina Panthers are banged up. This is certainly not something that you want to see throughout the course of the season, nevermind prior to the bye week. At least if injuries stack up prior to the bye week, the team will have a week off to rest. Instead, Carolina will have to plug in some holes and have some people step up.

Brian Burns and Eric Reid were held out of practice for the second day in a row. Donte Jackson, Greg Little, Trai Turner, Cam Newton, and Chris Manhertz also did not practice on Thursday. That is quite a lengthy list  of impact players. Gerald McCoy also was not at practice today, but that was a scheduled day off for the veteran according to the Carolina Panthers website. This injury bug is hitting the team at an inopportune time.

I understand that we are well into the season now. I understand that we are dealing with a veteran group of players who have certainly taken their fair share of hits over the years. Even still, the amount of players on the injury report is concerning. For one, you certainly want to see everybody healthy at a time when the team is beginning to find its groove. Secondly, a player like Jackson would definitely be relied upon come Sunday against what is a formidable group of Jacksonville wide receivers. This is certainly not ideal.

I I don’t think that this is any cause for long-term concern,  but it is just unfortunate to see so many players banged up. We haven’t even hit the midpoint of the season yet, and already we are seeing the injury bug hit Carolina. This is where the team’s depth will get tested, and I am very curious to see how those depth players will do. Hopefully, the coaching staff will be able to find a combination of players that can still deliver results while some of the starters are on the mend. I certainly trust that they can do so. They quite frankly have no other choice.

Hopefully, all the players mentioned above will be able to get healthy soon. Again, I would hate to see these players out for an extended period of time, but this is more about getting everyone healthy right now so they can be fresh down the road. The team certainly doesn’t want to risk injuring their star players so early in the season.
