Carolina Panthers Kyle Allen on the verge of history
Carolina Panthers backup quarterback Kyle Allen can make history on Sunday.
If the traditions from baseball carry over to the gridiron, no one will be talking to Carolina Panthers backup quarterback Kyle Allen as he prepares for Sunday’s game. Like a pitcher tossing a no-hitter into the late innings of a ball game, Allen can make history with another win and interception free performance. After victories in each of his first three career starts, carrying over a Week 17 victory in New Orleans from last year, the Panthers signal caller has gone interception free without a loss.
Allen and Philadelphia Eagles Carson Wentz are the only two quarterbacks to begin their careers in such a manner during the Super Bowl era. Currently tied, Wentz tossed an interception in his fourth start while also suffering a 24-23 loss to the Detroit Lions. If Allen can keep the ball away from Jacksonville and secure a victory, he’ll become the first quarterback in over 50 years to accomplish this feat.

If successful, Allen needs to carry his string of victories opposite the bye week in order to secure the most career wins at the start of a career. Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes owns that feat with six wins out of the gate from 2017-2018. In addition, the health of franchise quarterback Cam Newton may also delay Allen’s opportunities to extend his own streak. Expected to miss anywhere from four to eight weeks, the upcoming bye would be number five.
Despite the opportunity at history, Allen has been far from turnover free. He’s fumbled repeatedly in two games this season but has benefited from a high level of defensive play. After losing four of his five fumbles, the Panthers have only surrendered scores on two ensuing possessions by the opposition.
Tune in this Sunday to find out if history is made when the Panthers and Jaguars kick off play at 1:00pm ET inside Bank of America Stadium.
