Active Defensive Players

Thomas Davis, Luke Kuechly
The two potential defensive candidates who remain active played side by side for seven seasons until this year. Linebackers Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly both have put together impressive careers and as Davis nears the end of his time in the NFL, a Hall of Honor nomination awaits.

Both are guaranteed to be selected no matter when each decides to finally hang up their cleats. Davis, who now plays for the Los Angeles Chargers, joined the only other NFL team he’s ever known after 13 years with the Panthers.

A former first-round pick, Davis was nominated to three Pro Bowls and finally earned his first All Pro selection in 2015. Returning from multiple knee injuries during his career, the 36 year old overcame monumental odds to pursue his dream, becoming a fixture for the Panthers franchise, Walter Payton Man of the Year and fan favorite to many.

Kuechly is quickly becoming one of the best linebackers to ever play professional football. The Defensive Rookie of the Year (2012) and Player of the Year (2013), he’s been a Pro Bowl nominee every season but one and has five first-team All Pro selections (six total).

Routinely leading the team in tackles, Kuechly is currently in just his eighth year with the Panthers and although many of these future candidates enjoyed long, tenured careers in Carolina, he could quit now and still be a prime example of a Hall of Honor candidate.

Moving forward the team will likely establish some type of guidelines to orchestrate the nomination and selection processes but for now, enjoy this year’s class and expect to see each of these others join them down the road.
