The Carolina Panthers are taking the correct approach with their quarterback.

In case you haven’t heard by now, the Carolina Panthers are continuing to roll with Kyle Allen as their starting quarterback. It makes sense, given the fact that the team is traveling to London. As a result, Cam Newton has been told to stay home.

He will not make the trip and is continuing his rehab. Head coach Ron Rivera said as much in his press conference on Tuesday. The Panthers made a smart move by not electing to bring Newton to London. For one, London is a long plane ride. With a 12-hour timeframe, that would certainly not be ideal for someone who is trying to relax and get better.

Secondly, it wouldn’t do Newton any good to just stand on the sidelines for a trip across the pond.  It would be a lot different if this game was in Charlotte and he was able to sit and help Allen. However, it doesn’t make sense for him to fly all the way there for basically no reason.

Although this may be common sense to many people, I still have to give the Carolina Panthers credit. They are being smart with how they handle Newton. They could have easily also said “He is part of the team, he needs to come along.” Instead, they elected for him to stay home. On a more football -related note, Allen has been in a tremendous groove over the past three games. Although it has been Christian McCaffrey who has been handling the workload, there is no denying that the team gets a little bit of energy every time Allen steps under center . It’s fun to watch quite honestly.

I’m hoping Newton gets better. At the very least, this has shown us that the Carolina Panthers have a very capable backup quarterback who can come in and win football games. Although the wins have not been pretty at times, Allen has that the job done. I will be completely honest. I wasn’t sure if the Carolina Panthers would even get above. 500 at this point in the season. Sitting at 3-2, they have exceeded expectations to this point given the situation.

The Carolina Panthers are being smart with cCm Newton’s rehab. They are showing that they are taking it easy, and not trying to rush Newton back. That’s a very smart thing for them to do. Hopefully, they will continue to take the same cautious approach moving forward.
