The Carolina Panthers received some news about their quarterback on Monday.

There is certainly some interesting news as it regards the Carolina Panthers. Quarterback Cam Newton is expected to practice after the bye week according to multiple media reports.

This is certainly an intriguing development. We all know what he can do when he is healthy. However, will he be able to get back to what he was even last year? I certainly hope so, I do not want to see Newton’s career end like this. However, there is no denying that Kyle Allen is performing well in his place. Now sitting at 4-2, they Carolina Panthers are certainly in a better place than where I thought they would be.

I have mixed feelings about his return. For one, I am excited at the prospect that he might play again. On the other hand, I am certainly looking at the long-term implications. Is Newton rushing back to the game too quickly? What if he suffers a setback, or reaggravates his injury? Obviously, he is just returning to practice. Nobody has been named a starter for the San Francisco game yet. However, if Newton is good to go, he should definitely get the start.

If he starts against San Francisco, it will certainly be a big game for him. Should he reaggravate his injury, then it might be time for him to hang up the cleats. If he plays well, he should undoubtedly be the starter the rest of the way. It is important to remember that Allen is a placeholder for the Carolina Panthers. Nevertheless, there is no denying that Allen has been a successful placeholder for a team that otherwise would be on life support. Combined with Christian McCaffrey, both the quarterback and running back have performed well enough to put the Panthers in a position to win every Sunday.

There is no denying that the game against San Francisco is a big one. Should the Panthers be able to beat the 49ers, that would certainly send a message to the rest of the National Football League. It would be an awesome story to see Newton come back in his first game and beat San Francisco.

One thing is for certain amid all the uncertainty, head coach Ron Rivera has a big decision to make over the next couple of weeks. Should Newton be ready to go, that decision will carry an even greater magnitude. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
