Christian McCaffrey joins short list of legendary running backs with new Madden rating.

Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey entered the league amid skepticism after being selected No. 8 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. Initially splitting time with fellow running back Jonathan Stewart during his rookie campaign, the Panthers ultimately decided to lean on their new back and now he shoulders a majority of the offensive responsibilities.

Proving up to the task week in and week out, McCaffrey continues to break records while building up an impressive resume during such a short time in the league. Hoping to reduce his work load this season, an injury to starting quarterback Cam Newton forced the team to rely on McCaffrey considerably in order to move the football.

McCaffrey continues to impress, averaging over 100 yards rushing per game (105.9) while adding 517 yards through the air and 14 total touchdowns to this point. As a result, his rating in the popular Madden NFL video game has increased considerably since the game’s launch back in August. McCaffrey began the season with an overall rating of 91 but recently earned the prestigious 99 overall rating.

Recognized after practice today with the award, McCaffrey joins a short but impressive list of fellow running backs who also earned this elite rating – Barry Sanders, Marshall Faulk, LaDainian Tomlinson, Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson. The sixth ever player from his position to achieve this status, McCaffrey adds another trophy to his mantle.

In the conversation for league MVP, if McCaffrey increases his touchdown totals and the Panthers win a few more games down the stretch it would be hard for voters to overlook his body of work. There’s no question that without McCaffrey this offense would look entirely different.
