Mike McCarthy

Mike McCarthy is certainly an interesting name to pop up on this list. He definitely has the experience.  In 13 years as head coach of the Green Bay Packers, he compiled a 125-77-1 regular season record. The Packers finished first in the NFC North six times and won the Super Bowl in 2010.

He certainly has experience leading quarterbacks, which I think is extremely important for this Carolina Panthers group. Having been the quarterbacks coach of the Kansas City Chiefs from 1995-1998, he started his career early in that role. He also served as the quarterbacks coach of the Packers in 1999. During that time, they had a man by the name of Brett Favre under center. His name may sound familiar.

Given his time with the Green Bay Packers as the quarterbacks and head coach, it would be wise to at least consider him for the position. Also, the fact that he worked with Favre and Aaron Rodgers doesn’t hurt his resume either. The Carolina Panthers need an offensive-minded head coach for the future, and he would certainly be able to bring that level of experience. Playoff experience would also be an asset with McCarthy. He knows what it takes to win.

For a veteran group that has been to the playoffs before, playoff experience shouldn’t be a be-all, end-all for the next coach. However, for a group that has freefallen from a playoff berth two seasons ago, it would certainly be a helpful prerequisite
