Answer: no one knows!

Let’s recap: the Panthers just released their head coach of almost ten years and now they’re primed to release their quarterback of almost ten years? Do you really believe that over the course of about one week the Panthers put together a plan to ameliorate the loss of not one but two cornerstones of team leadership? It’s bad enough that the Panthers bought a ticket for the infamous “coaching carousel”, but all of a sudden they’re planning on buying a ticket for the “quarterback carousel”? Let’s be honest, David made a gutsy move by releasing Ron with no clear replacements lined up, but to release Newton after not giving him a fair chance to fight for his job? That just doesn’t make any sense at all.

The key phrase moving forward is “as per [insert source from the Panthers]”. Unless you hear that, it’s speculation and you can take it with a grain of salt.
