Defensive run game coordinator, Al Holcomb

Al Holcomb’s professional success story begins with his assistance in the victory of Super Bowl forty-six alongside one Mr. Perry Fewell. He was hired by the Panthers the following year as a linebackers coach where he developed the linebacking corps that would eventually compete in Super Bowl fifty.

He had a stint with the Cardinals as a defensive coordinator in 2018 before going to work for the Browns in 2019 as a run game coordinator and linebackers coach.

Fit with the Panthers

Bringing in someone who’s been with the Panthers and coached the Davis and Kuechly duo is encouraging in its own rite (especially given the recent news). If the Panthers do decide to draft a linebacker this April Mr. Holcomb would be instrumental in that person’s development.

It’s also worth noting that the last time the Panthers played with a consistently well-performing defensive front was in 2017, the last time Holcomb was there. Now in Charlotte, Holcomb will be reunited with his old friend Fewell and the budding Rhule who worked on the opposite side of the ball as the assistant offensive line coach in New York. Additionally, Holcomb will have a grown-up Shaq Thompson to help lead the way.
