Carolina Panthers offseason continues with more questions than answers.

Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper believes former Baylor coach Matt Rhule is the right man for leading his franchise into the future. Granting the NFL rookie head coach a seven-year contract, made apparent the time frame for rebounding from back-to-back losing seasons would likely come down the road as opposed to right now.

General manager Marty Hurney was retained as Tepper orchestrated changes to the football operations portion of his team beginning last season. Parting ways with Ron Rivera, Tepper set in motion a series of events to reshape Carolina on the field. While a complete rebuild may not be underway (yet), there’s definitely going to be some remodeling before the 2020 season kicks off.

Just days after rumors of guard Trai Turner being shopped around for a trade partner began to surface, news of a potential transaction with the Los Angeles Chargers began to break. Turner is expected to be dealt, once the new league year begins on March 18, in exchange for offensive tackle Russell Okung and nothing else.

A straight up player-for-player exchange led Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports to give the move a near failing grade. Receiving a ‘D’ grade for their efforts, it seems Hurney could potentially have gotten at least a late round pick in addition to the aging veteran.

If not, for a team hoping to prepare for the future – trading a 26-year old guard riding a string of five consecutive Pro Bowl nominations for an almost 32-year old tackle, who played in just six games last season appears to be a move in the opposite direction. The possibility remains there could be more in store or something else may arise once the deal can be made official, but right now it appears there won’t be any picks exchanging places.
