The Carolina Panthers have a big question mark when it comes to their tight end situation. Here’s making the case to trade for tight end David Njoku.

As the Carolina Panthers prepare for the 2020 NFL Draft, they made a few moves in free agency to help bolster their roster. They’re starting what will likely be a rebuilding project of two to three years to be ready for hopefully fielding a winning team by then. They’ll be a lot of changes, new faces, and hopefully, a winning culture ready to dominate the NFL.

At this point in time, they haven’t done much to address their situation at tight end. Greg Olsen was released and new offensive coordinator Joe Brady is ready to install a better system in place to win more football games. Brady will more than likely redo certain aspects of the offensive playbook and well, the latest trends in the league will undoubtedly add a few common tight end formations to the mix.

It’s no secret that with a new quarterback in town with Teddy Bridgewater, he’ll need a good arsenal of weapons ready to push the envelope. A tight end is a quarterback’s best friend and without Olsen in the lineup for the first time in about a decade, it would be wise for general manager Marty Hurney to make a move here. Since the NFL is a passing league, a good tight end is crucial in winning and is something the Panthers definitely need.

Enter tight end David Njoku of the Cleveland Browns. As the Browns do their best to also rebuild towards a better future, they just recently signed tight end Austin Hooper who will more than likely be a starter. This now makes Njoku expendable and potentially be open to being traded in order to be in a better situation where he can shine in a starting role.

Even though Njoku is coming off a wrist injury last year, before that he put up very respectable numbers. In 2018, Njoku totaled 639 receiving yards, 56 receptions, and four touchdowns. At just 24 years old this July, Njoku is a young player that still has his best football years ahead of him.

It would be wise of Hurney to consider making a trade for Njoku thanks to everything he brings to the table. Not only would he be a solid and experienced tight end but a good safety net for Bridgewater as he does what he does best on the gridiron.

Njoku has a lot of starting experience and if the Panthers traded for him, he would instantly be an upgrade over everyone they currently have in the positional group. For all we know, Njoku could once again thrive as a starting tight end with everything to prove on a new team this upcoming season.

Overall, Njoku likely won’t command much via trade in regards to what it will cost the Panthers to acquire him. Hopefully, it’s a move that happens since Njoku, before being injured, was a quality tight end that can come right in and start taking care of business.
